I used to wear a few masks before cancer….

When I talk about them, I feel a discomfort in my body…

They were not beneficial for me…

They were actually harming my health…

The first one was:

I NEED TO STRIVE FOR PERFECTION

That is a load of BS right!

If you are hiding behind this statement, please stop…

Nobody is perfect and nobody will ever be perfect.

We all make mistakes and all the time you are telling yourself you are doing everything right, you are missing the opportunity to acknowledge what you can do differently…

Not better but different…

Let’s say for instance…being a parent right?

I thought that by giving 100% attention to my kids, playing with them and taking them places, entertaining them etc was my responsibility…

It turns out that I was missing the opportunity to teach them one essential skill: sometimes you need to be able to play by yourself and be in your own company.

BEING A WORK HORSE IS WHERE MY SELF WORTH IS

Well this is just messed up right!

So many people work all the time these days because they can’t sit with themselves or their families or their own reality…

so working is where they feel comfortable…

working is where they don’t need to face what it is really going on in their personal life.

Our self worth lies on what we think about ourselves not on what we accomplish on the outside or on what people think about us…

When I look back at my life, I don’t recall any material things/accomplishments making me feel fulfilled or satisfied for longer than 5 minutes.

What about you?

I AM INVINCIBLE

I have done some pretty courageous things and I thought nothing was going to happen to me in terms of sickness…

I thought that my body could just keep taking the battering of the day to day life…

I was convinced I was going to live until I was old – say 80-90 by drinking beers, eating salami, eating a ton of sugar, no exercise, feeling stressed to the bone, not sleeping well etc…

It doesn’t add up does it?

I CAN CONTROL EVERYTHING

Well that went out of the window the minute I was diagnosed with cancer…

We are only in control of ourselves and we can only control what we focus on in the now.

There is no tomorrow…and the past is gone…

When I took the pressure off controlling everything from my shoulders, I felt a million times lighter and better.

So now if you are wearing any of these masks or all of them, I would love you to take them all off for 2 minutes…

Now ask yourself…

What are you left with?
