I feel like I don’t belong…

𝗠𝘆 𝗱𝗮𝗱 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗹…

He was born in Spain and arrived in Brazil age 5 with his parents after the second world war

Dead poor…😥

When I told him I was going to move to Spain at 21 years old…

He didn’t like it…😡

In his mind, he didn’t want me to be an immigrant as he was…

But I was determined to leave Brazil and at 21 years old,

I saved up my own money…

Got my Spanish passport together and left…

With all the money I could save…

Which wasn’t much but it was mine…

Starting all over again…

As immigrant I had to overcome a thing or 2….

People frowning at you when you are trying to speak their language…

People treating you differently because you are not from their country…

Making yourself look silly when you are trying to explain something complex for the first time in a different language

Trying to explain my emotions in a foreign languages

I learned Spanish, French and Dutch too (when I was living in Belgium)

Because as an immigrant I thought it was my responsibility to adapt and integrate…

I wanted to fit in…

As human beings we all want to fit in and feel we belong…

Part of my healing was to walk back to myself and find that sense of belonging…

PS: My healing journey had many layers and finding a sense of belonging was one of them.
